Epson GP-C831 GHS Label Printer

The Epson ColorWorks C831 GHS chemical drum label printer (also known as the GP-C381) is very easy to use and is an industrial-grade printer designed to print large volumes of drum labels. The GP-C831 is the first pigment inkjet label printer to be certified for GHS BS5609 compliant labels. The Epson MicroPiezo print-head technology combined with the Epson Durability Ultra pigment inks to give you industrial-strength labels. It has four individual ink cartridges (CMYK) and has a low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) versus other color laser label printers.

The GP-C831 can print labels ranging from  3 to 8.5” wide. The length of the printable area can go up to 22”. It can print up to 16.5 pages per minute and up to 720 dpi print resolution. You can connect the GP-C831 to your computer via the USB or network ports. If using the network port in the office anyone can send print jobs to the label printer.

A wide selection of pre-die cut labels are available for the Epson ColorWorks C381 label printer. This color inkjet printer has a tractor feeder for precise accuracy in feeding labels, which avoids paper jamming in the printer. The GP-C381 comes with all the features and benefits of having a rigorous color label printer. In using pigment-based inks, the durability and quality is astounding and gives excellent reliability. I found that the GP-C381 is considerably hands-on and it is excessively easy to maintain.

There are several different types of labels that are used with the Epson ColorWorks C831 label printer. Paper-based labels are for general labeling, such as high gloss and matte paper. As for synthetic labels, Matte BOPP (Polypropylene) or chemical labels that are GHS BS5609 compliant.

GHS stands for Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals. GHS is the global standard for classifying, identifying and labelling chemicals. To have chemicals shipped internationally, there needs to be a system that identifies the classification, storage as well the transportation and hazardous conditions of the chemical to minimize any risk to the health of humans, animals and the environment.

BS5609 is an international standard used on shipping containers for chemicals that are being shipped by sea. There is approval required using the BS5609 standard for self-adhesive labels on chemical drums. Drums of chemicals need IMDG certification, which stand for International Maritime Dangerous Goods.

When considering any chemical drum label printer, it can be quite beneficial going with the Epson GP-C381. The Epson ColorWorks C381 works as a charm when it comes to fast, cost effective chemical label printing.
